Event Details

Historic sites are testaments to history. The original building of Kangyo Bank, a Taipei Municipal Historical Site, was formerly Japan Kangyo Bank Taipei Branch, established in 1933, during the Japanese era. The R.O.C. Government took over the bank in 1946 for use of the Land Bank of Taiwan as its headquarters. The National Taiwan Museum restored and repurposed the building and opened it to the public as a museum in 2010.

The original Kangyo Bank building was ahead of its time; many new techniques, skills, equipment, and materials were adopted as part of its construction. The building serves as a physical testament to Taiwan’s architecture techniques and craft in the late Japanese era. The Exhibition are divided into four major sections: “History of the Former Kangyo Bank Building,” “Becoming a Heritage Site: The Value of the Former Kangyo Bank Building,” “2006: Restoration Begins,” “Restoration Process and Techniques.” Let’s explore this historical building’s character and the marvelous story behind its restoration!
