Organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts under the supervision of the Ministry of Culture, the “Taiwan International Print Biennial” has, since its inception in 1983, been dedicated to promoting printmaking, fostering international cultural exchange, and advancing the diverse development of the art form. Through more than four decades of sustained dedication, the Biennial has not only witnessed the evolution of printmaking across different historical contexts but has also become an important international platform for dialogue and exchange among print artists. Now in its 22nd edition, the Biennial continues to bring together creative energies from around the world, showcasing the richness and diversity of contemporary printmaking practices.

This edition received 1,336 submissions from 81 countries. Following a two-stage selection process comprising preliminary and final selections, 202 works were shortlisted, of which 183 are presented in the exhibition, including 15 prize-winning works and 168 selected entries. The exhibited works originate from 36 countries, reflecting a vibrant convergence of diverse cultural backgrounds and artistic perspectives. Participation from artists in Asia and Europe was particularly strong, with works from Thailand, Poland, Taiwan, Mainland China, and India accounting for more than half of the exhibited entries. The 15 prize-winning works represent nine different countries, underscoring the Biennial's achievements in promoting international exchange and cultural diversity. An international jury composed of experts from Taiwan, the United States, Japan, and Belgium evaluated the submissions from distinct cultural perspectives, reflecting the Biennial's spirit of facilitating international exchange and diverse dialogue.

Examining the works presented in this edition, it can be observed that the convergence of artistic practices rooted in diverse cultural backgrounds and visual traditions, creating a rich and multifaceted landscape of contemporary printmaking. Among the most prominent and recurring themes are personal experience, local memory, the natural environment, and contemporary social conditions. Many artists draw upon their own life experiences, exploring connections between the individual and society, as well as between past and present, through themes of family, childhood, homeland, and cultural heritage. Others examine humanity's relationship with nature through observations of landscapes, ecosystems, and natural cycles, reflecting on mutual dependence and the environmental challenges confronting contemporary society. Urban spaces, technological media, cultural identity, the trauma of war, and questions of human existence likewise emerge as significant subjects through which artists respond to the contemporary world, demonstrating that printmaking remains, as it has throughout history, a powerful medium for cultural reflection and social observation.

It is also noteworthy that this edition of the Biennial demonstrates the continued expansion of the printmaking medium. In addition to the ongoing refinement of traditional printmaking techniques and forms, some artists have incorporated mixed media, spatial installations, and three-dimensional structures, challenging the conventional two-dimensional framework of printmaking. At the same time, photography, digital technologies, and interdisciplinary approaches are widely employed, revealing a dynamic coexistence between traditional printmaking practices and contemporary creative methodologies. Other artists investigate the processes of printing, material properties, multiplicity, and labor, using experimentation and formal transformation to reconsider the possibilities and contemporary significance of printmaking.
