About the Exhibition:
The "2026 National Art Exhibition R.O.C.", organized by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA), has officially opened. In keeping with the museum's mission to encourage creative art endeavors, nurture emerging talent, and promote art exchanges, the museum facilitates dialogues and interactions among artists of different generations through an open call for submissions and a professional selection process. The year 2026 marks the exhibition's 16th edition, and, in addition to continuing its mission to propel the development of art in Taiwan, the exhibition has, amid the ever-changing landscape of contemporary art and culture, gradually evolved into an art platform characterized by a forward-looking vision and diverse perspectives.
The "2026 National Art Exhibition R.O.C." features 11 categories of Ink Painting, Chinese Calligraphy, Seal Engraving, Gouache Painting, Oil Painting, Watercolor Painting, Prints, Sculpture, Photography, New Media Arts, and Mixed Media. The artworks showcase a wide range of creative formats, demonstrating continuations of traditional Eastern and Western media, expansions and breakthroughs enabled by contemporary digital technology, and a myriad of artistic expressions. With over a thousand entries received this year, preliminary and final reviews by a jury of experts and scholars from various fields resulted in the selection of 114 artworks, including 32 Gold, Silver, and Bronze Prize winners and 82 Selected Works. Additionally, four outstanding artists are invited to participate in the exhibition through the Jury-Exemption Prize offered. Among this year's awardees is a new recipient of the Jury-Exemption Prize, who has achieved top-three rankings in the Seal Engraving category for three consecutive years. This achievement adds a brilliant highlight to the art exhibition.
With the continued development of intermedia and interdisciplinary trends, art today has long broken free from being limited to a single genre. Whether in media applications or visual composition, a range of complex and diverse creative approaches is developed. The artworks on view in this exhibition show how the artists transform and reorganize their ideas, which are integrated into their works to shape their unique creative language. Through bringing together and working with different media, fresh perceptual experiences are offered to viewers. Beyond being a way to express oneself, this kind of creative approach also reveals the vibrant process behind the conceptualization of one's art.
For many years, the "National Art Exhibition R.O.C." has carried out an important cultural mission and has received continuous support and input from all sectors of society, enabling it to remain a vital hub for art to come together. The exhibition is scheduled to be presented at the museum's Galleries 102-107, 203-205, and Gallery Street from July 18 to October 11, 2026. Moving forward, the NTMoFA will continue to refine our exhibitions and competition systems to provide artists with a broader platform to showcase their work, as we seek to instill greater vitality in Taiwan's art and culture and to accumulate expansive, forward-thinking artistic energy in a rapidly changing cultural landscape.
