June LGBTQIA+ Special Exhibition ”Another Dream”
"On the journey toward identity and belonging, love becomes the final refuge."
In 2001, the Netherlands became the first country in the world to legalize same-sex marriage, granting equal rights and responsibilities to all couples regardless of gender. This year marks the 25th anniversary of this historic milestone. Taiwan, meanwhile, legalized same-sex marriage on May 24, 2019, becoming the first country in Asia to achieve marriage equality.
Despite these significant advances, LGBTQIA+ rights remain overlooked or restricted in many parts of the world. Celebrated each June, Pride Month honors the LGBTQIA+ community and provides an opportunity for people of diverse sexual orientations, gender expressions, and gender identities to embrace and affirm themselves. It also encourages broader society to better understand, respect, and appreciate the cultures, values, and experiences of LGBTQIA+ communities.
Curatorial Concept
Everyone longs to be understood, accepted, and free to love and be loved. Yet for many LGBTQIA+ individuals, these seemingly fundamental rights continue to be challenged by family expectations, social prejudice, and legal barriers.
Presented as a virtual reality documentary, Another Dream invites audiences into the lived experiences of an Egyptian lesbian couple. Through an immersive perspective, viewers accompany them on a journey marked by uncertainty, courage, and hope as they seek safety, recognition, and freedom.
Presented during Pride Month, this exhibition aims to reveal that LGBTQIA+ people are not merely social issues or statistics, but individuals with genuine emotions, aspirations, and life stories. Through the unique sense of presence and empathy enabled by virtual reality, audiences are encouraged to transcend differences in culture, language, and identity, gaining a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by those whose experiences may differ from their own.
We believe that recognizing differences is not about drawing divisions, but about learning respect, empathy, and coexistence. Through this exhibition, we hope visitors will leave with a greater appreciation for diversity and a stronger commitment to creating a world in which everyone can live authentically and pursue happiness and belonging.

VR Gallery proudly presents Another Dream, an animated virtual reality documentary based on a true story. The work follows the journey of an Egyptian lesbian couple whose lives are profoundly affected by the growing backlash against LGBTQ communities in the aftermath of the Egyptian revolution. Forced to leave Cairo, they travel to the Netherlands in search of refuge, acceptance, and the freedom to live openly.
Through delicate and expressive animation, the film offers a bird's-eye view of their journey from Cairo to the Netherlands. While the visual language softens some of the harsh realities they encounter, the documentary-style narration remains deeply personal and emotionally powerful. Accompanying the protagonists along their path, viewers gain an intimate understanding of the fear, loneliness, and sorrow that arise from rejection and exclusion, while also witnessing the resilience that sustains them.
