About the exhibition:
Using the “Tai Mo Shan Former British Military Site” as the creative foundation, “RE: VICTORIA CITY” examines the traces within the colonial British military site, while also recounting Hong Kong’s situation before and after the handover, as well as the space of the state of social consciousness, through the memory fragments of former British soldiers stationed in Hong Kong and local Chinese soldiers.

British forces stationed in Hong Kong for 156 years, during which time, British Commonwealth Forces and local Chinese soldiers gave their lives for Hong Kong. British and local Chinese soldiers witnessed the rise and fall of Hong Kong’s colonial history. In 1997, with the handover to China, Hong Kong’s political ideology also transitioned. Military monuments, as memory of space and time, allow us to probe into the course of history. Through revisiting the historic site, and re-exploring the abandoned military space, interpretations of contemporary events are reexamined and reflected on.
