Artist Statement
This exhibition is inspired by nature's process of morphogenesis and the various complex shapes and forms that derive from the growth and reproduction from cell division. The process of formation has become the inspiration to investigate the rules and mechanisms of qualities such as symmetry, replication, and distributed behavior, which has led to the creative experiment Parameter, Algorithm and Nature.
The artists coding generative rules, such as symmetry and reproduction, into a fractal tree like algorithm, altering and changing the geometric description of leaves and branches through the parameter and the proportion between the two, resulting in a diverse and complex morphologies. Shape are free from the restrictions and limitations of the physical world and therefore present a sense of computational aesthetics that is complex and abstract. The industrial robot plays as an in-between medium, brings seamless interface from physical sculptural movement into virtual computational behavior, creating a hybrid creation logic between “design” and “nature” to portray the contradiction and integration on between technology and nature.
