The Contemporary Ceramic Art in Asia, one of the annual grand occasion for the industry, is fostered to being by the university faculty and students of the ceramics and pottery arts department across Taiwan, Japan, Korea and China. The National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute (NTCRI) had the honor to host this year’s event in Taiwan. The touring exhibition’s first stop takes place at the NTCRI Taipei Branch, once housed the National Taiwan Science Education Center and was restored to open lately in 2015 to its present-day grandeur. The exhibition then tours to next stop at the NTCRI venue in Caotun Township, Nantou County, to generate the upmost spectrum of impacts.

The exchange encompasses participation from 55 well-known universities both in Taiwan and abroad with over 380 works registered to take part in the exchange. Among the works registered, nearly a third, about 120 items are from Taiwan. The number of participants broke record and makes the exhibition the largest exhibition the NTCRI Taipei Branch has ever hosted since its current venue opened in late 2015.

The Contemporary Ceramic Art in Asia 2016 encompasses exhibitions, forum and seminars. In addition, the exchange is not limited to the scope of “Asia.” The hosting committee invited faculty and student of the Sydney College of the Arts (SCA) to the Contemporary Ceramic Art in Asia 2016. The Down Under participation definitely brought new perspective to the event.

As a leading force behind the crafts movement, the NTCRI, the top-ranking public sector in the spectrum, expect the exhibition to be fruitful for the new generations of potters, faculties and students. The government sector wishes the event not only create substantial opportunity for exchange and dialogue, but also promote the development of the contemporary Asian ceramics and potteries to a better realm.
