莫札特的音樂往往給人甜美優雅的印象。這場音樂會的小小晚間音樂、E大調慢板和C大調迴旋曲或許是這種印象的來源之一。但是，印象往往不盡正確：甜美優雅是事實，而莫札特遠不只於此。就像小小晚間音樂有「小」，但是四個樂章的結構，長度不遜於莫札特的交響曲，要演奏得味道純正，有室內樂的精緻，也並非易事。
第二十五號交響曲具有強烈的戲劇性，高潮迭起，更是已經超越了甜美優雅的範圍。這種講究戲劇張力、奇突變化的音樂，出現在海頓與莫札特的交響曲中，因為跟當時德語文學的「狂飆運動」相呼應，這些交響曲也冠以「狂飆」之名，第二十五號交響曲是其中的代表作，莫札特寫這首曲子時年僅十七歲。
這場音樂會邀請芝加哥交響樂團的樂團首席陳慕融合作擔任領奏，並獨奏與國臺交演出莫札特的第四號小提琴協奏曲。陳慕融師從名家，受教於李普賽、狄蕾門下，也上過海飛茲的大師課。合作對象也都非等閒，如巴倫波因、帕爾曼、祖克曼、馬友友、艾森巴赫、鄭明勳、艾克斯、內田光子。這場音樂會中呈現醇正的莫札特風味，如一顆切割完美的鑽石，從不同角度映照莫札特的光芒。（撰文／吳家恆）
When we talk about Mozart’s music, the words “sweet” and “elegant” usually come to mind. While his “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik”, Adagio in E Major for Violin and Orchestra, and Rondo in C Major for Violin and Orchestra, which will be performed in this concert, may fit the description, this impression is only part of the whole picture. The composer’s capability delivers far more than that. For example, although “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik” is “kleine” (little), it still has four movements and a total length close to a Mozart symphony. It is quite a challenge to present an authentic performance with the delicacy of chamber music.
Symphony No. 25 in G minor is extremely dramatic and goes way beyond “sweet and elegant”. In response to the Sturm und Drang movement in German literature, both Haydn and Mozart incorporated this type of sensational flair into their symphonies and titled them “Sturm und Drang”. Symphony No. 25 is one of this style’s masterpieces and Mozart was only 17 when he completed it.
This concert presents the mellow, authentic Mozart that sparkles like a perfectly cut diamond. Robert Chen, the concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, is invited to perform the solo in Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 4 in D Major. Chen has trained under many masters, including Robert Lipsett, Dorothy DeLay, and Heifetz, and has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, such as Daniel Barenboim, Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zukerman, Yo-Yo Ma, Christoph Eschenbach, Chung Myung-whun, Emanuel Ax, and Dame Mitsuko Uchida.
