教師經歷

於輔仁大學音樂系畢業後,進入英國伯明罕音樂院(Birmingham Conservatoire)深造取得碩士學位(MMus)及音樂研究所演唱文憑。主修聲樂先後師事林玉卿,徐以琳,Catherine Benson,Julian Pike,Andrew King,Jane Robinson,Stuart Smith,Stephen Wilder,Dr. Stephen Dubberly與Dr. Elvia Puccinelli,朱蕙心,羅明芳及朱苔麗,和Dr. Stephen Morscheck等教授。2004年獲得英國Cecil Drew神劇比賽首獎;2005年贏得伯明罕音樂院聲樂獎。

於英國求學期間,每年舉辦個人音樂會並多次參與歌劇或音樂劇演出,包括莫札特的 《女人皆如此》(Così fan tutte)《魔笛》(Die Zauberflöte);普賽爾(H. Purcell)的 《精靈皇后》(The Fairy Queen)《黛朵與伊尼亞斯》(Dido and Aeneas);名百老匯劇作家桑坦(Stephen Sondheim)的 Merrily We Roll Along;卡瓦利Cavalli的La Calisto;拉摩(Rameau)的Pygmalion;及英國現代作曲家Robin Grant的現代歌劇Dr. Dee首演。

曾參加台北世紀合唱團,並隨團赴歐多次參與比賽與演出。回國後旋即加入台北愛樂合唱團,以及台北愛樂劇工廠。於2006年春季參與愛樂音樂劇 《約瑟的神奇彩衣》(Joseph and His Amazing Technicoloured Coat)演出,並演出改編自莫札特魔笛的音樂劇 《魔笛狂想》。獲選為2008年兩廳院歌劇工作坊成員,並參與2008年台北歌劇劇場依多美聶歐》Idomeneo伊莉雅一角Understudy學習。

獲選台北市立交響樂團97年度歌劇演唱聲樂家,演出普契尼 《強尼史基基》(Gianni Schicchi) 之妮拉。獲選為國立中正文化中心兩廳院歌劇工作坊成員,演出兩廳院所主辦之「歌劇風華」,亦於2009年參與李佳蔚教授成立之「亞太歌劇工作坊」集訓並演出。也與豎琴家許淑婷組成室內樂Harppie & Vocalinna舉辦多場音樂會系列,《妖精‧仙境 The Fairyland為該年度其中一場。

現為國立中正文化中心兩廳院歌劇工作坊結訓成員與中華民國聲樂家協會會員,任教於國立花蓮高中音樂班、新竹建華國中音樂班。2012年考取四所美國音樂研究所博士班,選擇就讀北德州大學(University of North Texas)博士班進修,並獲州內獎學金入學。獲選為2012暑期歌劇《三便士歌劇》The Threepenny Opera擔任女主角Polly Peachum,擔任UNT歌劇法國哲學家盧梭之手稿《村莊裡的預言家》Le Devin du Village女主角Colette;馬斯奈歌劇《灰姑娘》Cendrillon其中Noémie一角。

Meng-Jung Tsai was born in Taipei, Taiwan and started her musical training at an early age. In 1996 Meng-Jung entered the Music Department of Fu-Jen Catholic University in Taipei, with singing as her first study and with piano and flute for second study. In 1999, she gained a Certificate as a Television Director of Performing Arts. In 2000, she graduated with BMus (Hons) in the summer.

From 2002, Meng-Jung then continued her singing education at Birmingham Conservatoire, Department of Vocal and Operatic Studies, under Catherine Benson and Julian Pike. She obtained her PG Diploma in 2003, and achieved her MMus degree in the following year. Meng-Jung could not get enough of the staged-performance projects at the college, and so she stayed for one more year at the Conservatoire between 2004-2005. During the Conservatoire days, the stage performances she had participated in include Mozart’s Così fan tutte and Die Zauberflöte, Purcell’s The Fairy Queen and Dido and Aeneas, Cavalli’s La Calisto, Rameau’s Pygmalion, Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along, and the premiere of Robin Grant’s contemporary opera Dr. Dee.

Trained as a soloist, Meng-Jung have held singing recitals in each year while studying abroad and also performed a series of salon concerts back in Taiwan. She was the winner of Cecil Drew Oratorio Prize 2004 and the Birmingham Conservatoire Singing Prize 2005.

After coming back to her birth land, Meng-Jung has right straight joined Taipei Philharmonic Chorus and its Musical Factory. Being one of its actors, she has taken parts in the tours of Lloyd Weber’s Joseph and His Amazing Technicoloured Coat, and Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, both of the plays have arranged into Chinese versions. Now, Meng-Jung is the member of the Opera Studio sponsored by NTCH; also, she is pleasured to be the understudy of Ilia, in Mozart’s Idomeneo, produced by Taipei Opera Theater, 2008.

As an opera singer, MJ has been chosen to perform a Puccini’s character, Nella, in Gianni Schicchi with Taipei Symphony Orchestra in September 2008. Moreover, she is a member of Taiwan Opera Studio, and sang in “The Beauty of Opera” in 2007-2008; she joined The Asian-Pacific Opera Studio, held by Dr. Chia-Wei Lee, in 2009. Meng-Jung also has a chamber music group, “Harppie & Vocalinna” founded in 2005, and they hold lots of joint recitals and duets in recent years. Before going abroad, Meng-Jung also was a voice teacher in National Hualian Senior High, and Hsinchu City Chien-Hua Junior High. In 2012, she had admitted into four DMA programs within the US; Meng-Jung decides to go to University of North Texas for her continuing Doctor Degree pursuing, with in-state scholarship and tuition. Meng-Jung has been assigned to sing the leading role, Polly Peachum in Kurt Weill’s Opera/Musical Die Dreigroschenoper, and she sang another main character, Colette in Rousseau’s French Baroque Opera Le Devin du Village; Noémie in Massnet’s Cendrillon.
