水藍 Lan Shui

水藍擅長帶領樂團,而且熱衷於委託、首演並錄製亞洲頂尖作曲家的新作。他從1997年開始擔任新加坡交響樂團的音樂總監,《美國唱片評論》寫道,水藍「帶領地區性的優秀樂團登上世界級的舞台,並在每場音樂會上全力以赴。」新加坡交響樂團曾前往歐洲、亞洲與美國多趟巡迴演出,大獲好評,並在2014年九月首次受邀至英國BBC逍遙音樂節演出。

水藍從2007年起至2016年,是哥本哈根愛樂樂團首席指揮,2017年轉任榮譽指揮。並在國立臺灣交響樂團擔任四年的藝術顧問,直到2014年卸任。至於本季的工作,除了家鄉繁忙的樂團事務之外,水藍也前往波士頓指揮華裔作曲家周龍的普立茲音樂獎得獎歌劇作品--《白蛇傳》。

水藍在世界各地的樂團擔任客座指揮,他在美國指揮過洛杉磯愛樂、舊金山交響樂團,以及巴爾的摩與底特律交響樂團;歐洲的樂團包括柏林德意志交響樂團、法蘭克福廣播交響樂團、丹麥國家交響樂團、斯圖加特廣播交響樂團、德意志廣播愛樂、瑞典哥特堡交響樂團、坦佩雷愛樂交響樂團,以及法國國家里爾管弦樂團;至於亞洲方面則包括香港、馬來西亞與日本愛樂交響樂團,另外他與中國愛樂及上海交響樂團也保持緊密的關係。

水藍從1998年開始帶領新加坡交響樂團為BIS錄製超過35張唱片,包括齊爾品完整的交響樂作品。另外他還與馬爾默交響樂團、獨奏家依芙琳‧葛蘭妮女爵士、林昭亮與吉爾‧夏漢合作,錄製亞諾爵士與亨德密特的作品。他的專輯曾獲得艾美獎兩度提名。

水藍多次獲得國際獎項的肯定,包括北京藝術節、紐約齊爾品協會、第37屆法國貝桑松指揮大賽、波士頓大學(傑出校友獎),以及新加坡文化勳章,這是新加坡政府對藝術的最高榮譽肯定。

水藍生於中國杭州,他在上海音樂學院主修作曲,並從北京中央音樂學院畢業,之後前往波士頓大學攻讀碩士,同時在檀格塢音樂節與伯恩斯坦有密切的合作關係。他曾與大衛‧辛曼共事,擔任巴爾的摩交響樂團的指揮夥伴,在底特律交響樂團擔任尼米‧賈維的副指揮,並與庫特‧馬舒爾(紐約愛樂)以及皮耶‧布萊茲(克里夫蘭管弦樂團)合作指揮。

Lan Shui is renowned for his abilities as an orchestral builder and for his passion in commissioning, premiering and recording new works by leading Asian composers. As Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra since 1997, American Record Review noted that Shui has “turned a good regional orchestra into a world-class ensemble that plays its heart out at every concert”. Together they have made several acclaimed tours to Europe, Asia and the United States and appeared for the first time at the BBC Proms in September 2014.

Lan Shui also held the position of Chief Conductor of the Copenhagen Phil from 2007 to 2016, and from 2017 he will be their Conductor Laureate. He recently concluded a four-year period as Artistic Advisor of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra concluding in 2014..  This season, aside from a busy schedule with his ‘home orchestras’, Shui returns to the opera pit for Zhou Long’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Madame White Snake in Boston.  

As a guest conductor, Shui has worked with many orchestras worldwide. In the United States he has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Baltimore and Detroit symphony orchestras. In Europe he has performed with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Gothenburg Symphony, Tampere Philharmonic and Orchestre National de Lille. In Asia he has conducted the Hong Kong, Malaysian and Japan Philharmonic orchestras and maintains a close relationship with the China Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony.

Since 1998 Shui has recorded over 35 CDs with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for BIS - including the first ever complete cycle of Tcherepnin’s symphonies – and also works by Arnold and Hindemith with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra featuring soloists such as Dame Evelyn Glennie, Cho-Liang Lin and Gil Shaham. His albums have received twice Grammy nominations.

Lan Shui is the recipient of several international awards from the Beijing Arts Festival and the New York Tcherepnin Society, the 37th Besançon Conductors’ Competition in France and Boston University (Distinguished Alumni Award) as well as the Cultural Medallion - Singapore’s highest accolade in the arts.

Born in Hangzhou, China, Shui studied composition at the Shanghai Conservatory and graduated from The Beijing Central Conservatory. He continued his graduate studies at Boston University while at the same time working closely with Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Music Festival. He has worked together with David Zinman as Conducting Affiliate of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, as Associate Conductor to Neeme Järvi at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and with Kurt Masur at the New York Philharmonic and Pierre Boulez at The Cleveland Orchestra.
