約翰‧尼爾森是全球知名且相當重要的合唱團/交響樂團指揮家，他對大型抒情曲目的演繹，尤其是白遼士的經典作品，在國際間更是享有讚譽。

尼爾森指揮過許多世界聞名的管弦樂團，包括倫敦交響樂團、巴黎交響樂團、萊比錫布商大廈管弦樂團、芝加哥交響樂團、費城克里夫蘭交響樂團、紐約愛樂交響樂團、新日本愛樂交響樂團、新加坡交響樂團、香港交響樂團，以及中國愛樂交響樂團。

許多重要的音樂廳，包括了大都會歌劇院、紐約市歌劇院、芝加哥歌劇院、巴士底歌劇院、荷蘭歌劇院與羅馬歌劇院，都曾經響起尼爾森指揮的多元曲目。

尼爾森大師的重要作品包括了韓德爾歌劇《瑟蜜蕾》（1993年獲葛萊美獎）、白遼士歌劇《畢艾翠絲與班乃迪克》（1992年獲法國Diapason古典樂雜誌編輯獎）；DVD影視作品則有巴哈《b小調彌撒b minor Mass》、《聖馬太受難曲 St. Matthew Passion》，海頓《創世紀 Die Schopfung》與貝多芬《莊嚴彌撒 Missa Solemnis》。尼爾森也曾經擔任巴黎室內交響樂團的榮譽指揮，錄製貝多芬交響曲與鋼琴協奏曲合輯。

尼爾森也是芝加哥新創聖樂團體SOLI DEO GLORIA的創辦人與藝術總監，樂團演出的作品來自多位優秀作曲家，如Christopher Rouse、James MacMillan、Roxanna Panufnik與Sven-David Sandstrom。

尼爾森近期的演出包括了美國聖塔菲《唐喬凡尼 Don Giovanni》、法國史特拉斯堡《特洛伊人  Berlioz' Les Troyens》和中國北京《羅密歐與茱麗葉（白遼士）Roméo et Juliette》；另外也將與國立臺灣交響樂團、華沙愛樂交響樂團、伯恩貝多芬交響樂團、巴黎室內交響樂團、西班牙國交響樂團、新加坡交響樂團與蒙特婁交響樂團合作演出。

Recognized as one of the world’s most distinguished choral/orchestral conductors, John Nelson is internationally renowned for his interpretation of the large romantic repertoire, including the great works of Berlioz.

He has conducted most of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia and Cleveland Orchestras, the New York Philharmonic, the New Japan Philharmonic, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Philharmonic, and the China Philharmonic.

His varied repertoire has also taken him to many of the world's major opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the New York City Opera, the Chicago Lyric Opera, the Opéra Bastille, the Netherlands Opera and Rome’s Teatro dell’Opera.

Maestro Nelson’s distinguished discography includes Handel's Semele (Grammy Award 1993), Berlioz' Béatrice et Bénédict (Diapason d'Or 1992), and highly acclaimed DVDs of Bach's B minor Mass, and St. Matthew Passion, Haydn's Die Schoepfung and Creation and Beethoven's Missa Solemnis. He also recorded the complete Beethoven Symphonies and Piano Concertos with the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, of which he is honorary musical director. 

John Nelson is co-founder and artistic director of SOLI DEO GLORIA, a Chicago-based organization fostering new sacred music, which has commissioned major works from composers such as Christopher Rouse, James MacMillan, Roxanna Panufnik and Sven-David Sandstrom.

Recent and future engagements include Don Giovanni in Sante Fe, Berlioz' Les Troyens in Strasbourg, Roméo et Juliette (Berlioz) at the Beijing Festival and symphonic engagements with the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, the Warsaw Philharmonic, the Beethoven Orchestra of Bonn, the Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, the Orquesta Nacional de España, the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal.
