莊東杰 Tung-Chieh Chuang

莊東杰為2015年在哥本哈根舉行的馬爾科國際指揮大賽優勝者，他也在班貝格舉行的馬勒指揮大賽與法蘭克福舉辦的蕭提大賽中獲獎。他曾指揮過馬林斯基劇院管弦樂團、柏林德意志交響、班貝格交響、德意志廣播愛樂、萊比錫中德廣播、布萊梅德意志室内愛樂、奧斯陸愛樂、丹麥國家廣播交響、哥德堡交響、皇家斯德哥爾摩愛樂、赫爾辛基愛樂、西班牙奧維耶多愛樂等樂團。

出生於音樂世家，莊東杰自小即展現了音樂才華，早年學習法國號與鋼琴，11歲時即公開演出。他曾於費城寇蒂斯音樂院、威瑪音樂學院求學，師事對象包括了指揮家馬克‧吉伯森、古斯塔夫‧麥爾、奧圖-威納‧穆勒，以及尼可拉斯‧帕斯克等名家。

Tung-Chieh Chuang is the celebrated winner of the International Malko Competition 2015 in Copenhagen. The 34-year-old Taiwanese conductor stood out amongst a large field of candidates to win this prestigious award. Previously, Mr. Chuang had already won a prize and the Audience Award at the Solti Competition in Frankfurt. He is also a winner of the Gustav Mahler Competition in Bamberg and the Jeunesse Musicales Conducting Competition in Bucharest.

As a guest conductor, Tung-Chieh Chuang has recently conducted such orchestras as Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, MDR Symphony Orchestra Leipzig, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Tampere Philharmonic and Qatar Philharmonic. He worked with the 12 Cellists of the Berlin Philharmonic and conducted the Filharmonica G. Enescu Bucharest, Oviedo Filarmonia, and Sønderjyllands Symphony Orchestra.

Highlights of the 2016/2017 season include concerts with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Junge Deutsche Philharmonie, Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie Saarbrücken, Polish Radio Symphony Orchestra Katowice, RTE Dublin and Orchestre Philharmonique du Luxembourg. Furthermore, he works with Württembergisches Kammerorchester Heilbronn, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Turku Philharmonic, Helsingborg Symphony, Seoul Philharmonic, National Symphony Orchestra Taiwan and Macao Orchestra. In October 2016 he will conduct the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra on a tour in China.

In 2010, Mr. Chuang received the Edwin B. Garrigues Fellowship of the Curtis Institute of Music.A year later in Philadelphia, he initiated the Curtis Japan Benefit Concert, donating all proceeds to the victims of the March 2011 earthquake, via the Red Cross Japan. In 2012 he launched the first orchestral ‘flashmob’ in Taiwan, in his role as Principal Conductor of the National Taiwan University Symphony Orchestra.

Born into a family of professional musicians, Tung-Chieh Chuang showed great musical promise from an early age and learned early to play horn and piano, giving his first public concert at age 11. He studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia and at the Weimar Academy of Music. His mentors include Mark Gibson, Gustav Meier, Otto-Werner Mueller and Nicolás Pasquet.

Prior to embarking on a musical career, Mr. Chuang received a bachelor in applied statistics at Purdue University (USA). Today he lives with his family in Berlin.
