陳中申 Chung-Shen CHEN

Chen Chung-Shen is a graduate of Taichung Normal School and Soochow University. While renowned for his dizi and xiao (Chinese bamboo flutes) performances, Chen is also involved in conducting, music composition, teaching, and instrument innovation, making him an all-around musician. He served as the conductor of the Taipei Chinese Orchestra from 1992 to 2004 and taught at the Tainan National University of the Arts between 2004 and 2011. Chen has been an independent musician since 2011 and remains active in dizi and xiao performing, music composing, instrument innovation, and education. He has released several performance recordings that have repeatedly received nominations and awards at the Golden Melody Awards for Traditional Arts and Music in the categories of Best Performance, Best Composition, Best Arrangement, Best Album, and Best Production. In 2019, Chen was honored with the National Award for Arts, and has served as chairman of the Taiwan Dizi and Xiao Association since that year. He also started his term as the Chairman of the Shuanghsi Music Forum in 2025.
