 Writer-in-Residence / écrivaine en résidence 

 Rebecca Vaissermann

 

 

  • Rebecca Vaissermann is a writer and actress. Her work revolves around issues of memory and transmission, exploitation and rebellion, and is deeply rooted in the contemporary Francophone literary context. In 2013, she published her debut novel Oubliés (The Forgotten) with Parole Ouverte, which won the Young Authors Award from l'Ile aux Livres. She has since written several plays, including La Boîte de Sopi (The Box of Sopi, 2019, Dramedition), Salle de traite (Milking Parlor, 2020, Koïnè), and 49 degrés (49 Degrees, 2025, L'œil du prince), which have received recognition from various juries and writing grants. In 2026, she will be a resident at the Villa Formose, where she will write a new novel, La Dernière Vague (The Last Wave), set in Taiwan.
     
  • Rebecca Vaissermann est autrice et comédienne. Son travail gravite autour des questions de mémoire et de transmission, d'exploitation et de révolte, et est résolument ancré dans les écritures contemporaines francophones. En 2013, elle publie Oubliés, son premier roman, aux éditions Parole Ouverte, lauréat du concours jeunes auteurs de l'Ile aux Livres, puis écrit des pièces de théâtre comme La Boîte de Sopi (Dramedition, 2019), Salle de traite (éditions Koïnè, 2020) ou encore 49 degrés (éditions L'œil du prince, 2025), lauréates de plusieurs comités et bourses d'écriture. En 2026, elle séjournera à la Villa Formose pour l'écriture d'un nouveau roman, La Dernière Vague, se déroulant à Taïwan.

Inventing worlds : drama workshop
Inventer des mondes : atelier théâtre

  Venue   Creative Workshop, Taiwan Literature Base

 

  Rebecca Vaissermann, author and actress in residence at the Taiwan Literature Base, will lead a theatre workshop open to all, with no prerequisites, based on the themes of her novel project, La Dernière Vague (The Last Wave). Group exercises and guided improvisations will allow participants to unleash their imagination and discover her initial writing ideas together.

  Rebecca Vaissermann, autrice et comédienne en résidence à la Taiwan Literature Base animera un atelier de pratique théâtrale ouvert à toutes et tous sans prérequis, autour des thématiques de son projet de roman, La Dernière Vague. Exercices de groupe et improvisations guidées permettront de déployer son imaginaire, et de découvrir ensemble ses premières pistes d'écriture.

Writing in motion: research and creation in residence
Ecritures en mouvement : recherche et création en résidence

Director of Théâtre d'Ombre et de Bois

 

  Discussion between Rebecca Vaissermann, author, actress and winner of the Villa Formose Livre 2026 award, and Tsai Ming-Hsuan, author and director of Théâtre d'Ombre et de Bois (Shadow and Wood Theatre), who completed a residency at the Taiwan Literature Base in 2023. Through their exchanges, the two authors will illustrate how residencies for authors in France and Taiwan help to nurture the creative process.

  Rencontre entre Rebecca Vaissermann, autrice, comédienne et lauréate de la Villa Formose Livre 2026 et Tsai Ming-Hsuan, autrice et directrice de la compagnie du théâtre d'Ombre et de Bois, ayant notamment effectué une résidence à la Taiwan Literature Base en 2023. En s'interrogeant mutuellement les deux autrices mettront expliqueront comment en France et à Taiwan les résidences d'auteurs permettent de nourrir le processus créatif.

 


 

 Session 3 

The Last Wave: building a universe during a writing residency
La Dernière Vague : construire un univers en résidence d'écriture

 

  Date   February 22nd (Sun.) 2PM - 4PM

  Venue   Joy of Reading Hall, Taiwan Literature Base

 

  La Dernière Vague (The Last Wave), a science fiction novel project, requires preliminary work stages prior to writing, in particular the construction of a fictional world inspired by the history and culture of Taiwan. This event will be an opportunity to present this universe and look back on this residency to examine the link between writing residencies and creation.

  La Dernière Vague, projet de roman d'anticipation, nécessite des étapes de travail préliminaires à l'écriture, notamment par la construction d'un monde fictif, inspiré de l'Histoire et de la Culture de Taiwan. Ce rendez-vous sera l'occasion de présenter cet univers et de revenir sur ce séjour en résidence pour interroger le lien entre résidence d'écriture et création.

 


 

 Session 4 

The Last Wave: Presentation and reading of excerpts
La Dernière Vague : Présentation et lecture d'extraits

  After a month-long writing residency, Rebecca Vaissermann will discuss the research and writing process behind La Dernière Vague (The Last Wave), a science fiction novel inspired by Taiwanese history and culture, and will read several excerpts from the novel, which is currently in progress.

  Après un mois de résidence d'écriture, Rebecca Vaissermann reviendra sur le processus de recherche et d'écriture de La Dernière Vague, projet de roman d'anticipation inspiré de l'histoire et la culture taiwanaise, et lira quelques extraits de ce roman en cours d'écriture.
