【Upcoming】Galloping: The Multifaceted Images of the Horse
Exhibition Introduction

As 2026 marks the traditional Year of the Horse, this exhibition draws upon the museum’s collection of horse-related artifacts and artworks as its primary medium. It seeks to explore how these objects reflect differing interpretations of nature, power, and freedom across Eastern and Western cultures. Furthermore, from the perspective of artistic representation, the exhibition examines how processes of re-creation enable the horse to transcend its biological existence and be transformed into a purely cultural and symbolic medium.

Throughout human history, the horse has carried multiple layers of meaning: it has been a companion in warfare, a symbol of freedom, a source of artistic inspiration, and a vehicle for cultural exchange. Structured across three thematic galleries, the exhibition approaches the horse through three distinct artistic languages—form, ink, and color—to investigate its aesthetic interpretations and spiritual projections across cultures. In doing so, it invites reflection on the evolving relationship between humans and the natural world.

The exhibition is organized into three sections:
“Eternal Form: Translating Nature into Culture”,
“Color as Narrative: Power and Passion in the Western Imagination”, and
“Poetics of White Space: Interplay of Void and Substance in Eastern Thought.”

Together, these galleries offer multiple ways of seeing and understanding the horse—from material and physical realities to philosophical and symbolic dimensions—forming a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary journey that bridges East and West, matter and meaning.
