With Help from the Universe: Shan Li’s Painting and T. C. Wang’s Inscription
Exhibition Introduction
In the year 1942, Sino-Japanese War was still intense. When the Shandong province fell to the hands of the Japanese army, Shan Li and T. C. Wang and thousand youths escaped the occupied area and fled to the north of the Huai River. They studied in Chen Chen Junior High School (National No. 22 High School). There they studied hard and hoped to serve their nation. Afterwards, Wang came to Taiwan and later lived in New York. Shan Li stayed in China in confinement. Thirty years later, Li also arrived at the Long Island. In 1987, Li and Wang met accidently in an exhibition in New York. Since then, they regained their friendship for another 27 years. Wang is a famous writer and essayist. Li is a hard-working painter and calligrapher. This year, they and their works will have a reunion in National Museum of History and tell stories about this uncommon friendship that endures the heat of war and the passing of time. These works of painting, calligraphy, and inscription will share some touching stories of humanity and make perfect all the lacks of human life. For Wang and Li, their sufferings and their friendships come to be with all the help from the universe.
