陳立立

生於臺灣花蓮。其創作充滿豐富色彩，透過對音色的探索與融合及細緻的聲響對位語法，營造音樂的詩意與戲劇性。現為美國加州大學柏克萊分校博士候選人，師事Ken Ueno、Franck Bedrossian、Edmund Campion與 Cindy Cox。於國立臺北藝術大學取得學士與碩士，師事洪崇焜。曾獲亞洲作曲家聯盟青年作曲比賽首獎、!BAMM! Student Composers Competition、國臺交鼓勵創作、兩廳院樂典、北市交團慶作品、教育部文藝創作獎，並參與亞洲與美國多場音樂節（June in Buffalo、Mise-en Festival、國際電腦音樂年會、美國電子音樂年會、亞洲作曲家聯盟音樂節、十方樂集臺灣現代音樂論壇等）。合作樂團包括國立臺灣交響樂團、臺北市立交響樂團、樂興之時交響樂團、小巨人絲竹樂團、Mivos Quartet、Ensemble Signal、Eco Ensemble、Splinter Reeds。2015年獲George Ladd Prix de Paris補助赴法一年。(http://chenlily.com)

Lily Chen

Born in Hualien, Taiwan, is a composer exploring timbral potentials of both acoustic and electronic music. In her recent works, she creates counterpoint of timbre by synthesizing sound gestures with subtlety, thus shaping imaginative and poetic atmosphere in her music. She is currently a PhD candidate in music composition at the University of California, Berkeley, where she is studying with Ken Ueno, Franck Bedrossian, Edmund Campion, and Cindy Cox. She got her bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Taipei National University of the Arts in Taiwan, under the instruction of Chung-Kun Hung. Since 2005, Lily has received several prizes, including 1st Prize of Asian Composers League Young Composers Award, !BAMM! Student Composers Competition, 1st and 2nd Prizes of Nicola de Lorenzo Prize in Music Composition, and some other prizes in Taiwan. Lily’s music has been performed at several international festivals in Taiwan, Korea, Israel, and throughout the United States, including June in Buffalo, Mise-en Music Festival, International Computer Music Conference, SEAMUS National Conference, New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival, and Asian Composers League Conference and Festival. She has also collaborated with several ensembles and orchestras, including Eco Ensemble, Mivos Quartet, Ensemble Signal, Splinter Reeds, Ensemble Pamplemousse, Ensemble Mise-en, Ensemble Exceptet, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, and Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra. 《葉落之後》

此曲源自我在歐洲的生活體驗與記憶。前年秋天我旅居巴黎十個月，經歷許多場景：我置身多彩的秋天，橘黃落葉沙沙作響成連綿葉雨；我度過駭人的冬天，感受恐怖攻擊後的驚惶與當地人的堅韌。在倫敦聖保羅教堂前，群鐘交錯鳴響成紊亂魔幻的巨大聲音迷陣；在柏林猶太博物館裝置藝術「落葉」前，千片金屬臉孔在腳下相互碰撞如受難者的淒厲哭喊。匯整這些情緒與聲響，我想述說一片葉子的歷程：它是cummings詩中孤獨的落葉，是落葉雨中輕輕飄下的葉子，是重重落地的金屬葉片，在種種動盪後飛昇成蝶，振翅掀起旋風，直到下次墜落重生。在此曲中，我試圖構築一持續流動的過程，以振動與氣聲表現葉落與蝶飛的姿態，以金屬噪音聲響與殘響隱喻鐘鳴與金屬碰撞。

A Leaf Falls After

This piece is inspired by my recent memories of living in Europe. In 2015, I had an opportunity to live in Paris for ten months. Lots of touching and shocking incidents happened during my residence. I was impressed by the most clear and colorful fall I’d ever seen when autumn leaves fell to the ground, sizzling as if drizzling; I was terrified by the terrorist attack but also touched by the toughness of the Parisians that winter; I was fascinated when visiting St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, hearing 12 bells constantly ringing, intertwining together as a huge chaotic but illusory whirl; I was stunned when seeing the installation ‘Fallen Leaves’ at Jewish Museum in Berlin, watching thousands of open mouthed steel metal faces on the ground create metallic grating sounds like the victims’ screams. Inspired by mixed emotions and diverse sounds, this piece traces the journey of a leaf: a solitary leaf falling with loneliness as described in e. e. cummings’ poem; a light leaf falling with other leaves in autumn; a heavy metal leaf fallen on the ground. However, no matter what vibrations it has undergone during its falling and fallen time, it will eventually be reincarnated into a rising butterfly, flapping its wings to cause a tornado in spring until the next falling comes. Based on such images, I create a constantly flowing process of different kinds of vibrations along with air sounds to represent falling leaves, fallen leaves, and flaps of rising butterflies’ wings. Besides this, metallic sounds/noises either with pure resonances or with intense pressure make up another important element, which is associated with my memories of the ringing bells and the metal “fallen leaves.”
