陳秋盛 l 指揮

1986-2003年,擔任臺北市立交響樂團音樂總監一職以來,陳秋盛被公認為是在國內與國際音樂舞臺上最活躍的指揮家之一。其指揮曲目非常廣泛,從巴洛克時期到二十世紀不一而足;除了歌劇與管弦樂團的演出,也演奏臺灣作曲家的創作。在陳秋盛的出色領導下,臺北市立交響樂團開創出一個新時代,成為亞洲最有活力、最受尊敬的管弦樂團之一。

陳秋盛所受的正規音樂訓練始於其出生地臺灣。十七歲贏得全省小提琴比賽第一名,之後赴歐洲繼續音樂教育,並於1969年畢業於慕尼黑國立音樂學院。回臺後,擔任國防部交響樂團、中國青年交響樂團與華興交響樂團指揮;並率領華興交響樂團參加在荷蘭舉辦的第八屆國際音樂大賽,贏得第一名。

在陳秋盛帶領北市交的十七年間,其功績並不僅止於指揮交響作品,他還成功地製作及演出多齣歌劇,例如:《阿依達》、《奧泰羅》、《丑角》、《茶花女》、《遊唱詩人》、《波希米亞人》、《蝴蝶夫人》、《杜蘭朵公主》、《托斯卡》、《卡門》、《鄉村騎士》、《弄臣》以及《漂泊的荷蘭人》等歌劇,拓展了臺灣觀眾的音樂視野。他的創造力與想像力使他成為臺灣最優秀的指揮,第一位將歌劇以戶外演出的方式呈現給觀眾─就在臺北具有歷史地位的中山堂廣場演出。2002年四月演出的《蝴蝶夫人》與其後同年十月的《鄉村騎士》,皆獲得極大的成功。兩場演出聚集了不同年齡層的龐大群眾,可說是臺灣音樂演出活動中觀眾最多的場次。

經由探索新的曲目、深入社區以及教育計畫,陳秋盛把自己塑造成令人矚目的管弦樂團建立者。他也曾帶領臺北市立交響樂團到美國、新加坡、香港、韓國、菲律賓、俄羅斯和法國演出,建立樂團的國際知名度。2001年,該團在維也納的初次登臺演出獲得如雷的掌聲與一致的好評。

陳秋盛的國際事業包括指揮許多世界知名的管弦樂團。他曾擔任諸如英國皇家愛樂、莫斯科愛樂、新日本愛樂、日本N.H.K.、布拉格國立歌劇院、蘇聯愛樂、捷克國家廣播、匈牙利國家廣播、俄羅斯聖彼得堡愛樂(前列寧格勒愛樂)等樂團的客席指揮,這些經歷使其得以在廣大聽眾前展露其指揮天賦。陳秋盛所錄製的唱片已有許多張,包括臺灣與西方的曲目,其嫻熟的指揮功力並贏得樂論喝采。在其最新發行的一張作品,與極知名的安東尼‧吉利歐帝聯合灌錄的洛赫貝爾格的《豎笛協奏曲》,陳秋盛展現其高超的音樂技巧和對此一當代作品的全新詮釋,以及個人對完成藝術上卓越成就的執著。

Felix Chiu-Sen Chen l Conductor

During 1986-2003, Chen served as the Director of Taipei Symphony Orchestra and is acknowledged as one of the most active conductors on Taiwan and international music community. Chen conducted for an extensive array of pieces, from Baroque to music from the 21st century. Besides opera and orchestra performances, Chen also performed works by Taiwan local artists. Under his outstanding guidance, Taipei Symphony Orchestra has entered a new chapter to become the one of the most vibrant and respected orchestra group in Asia.

Chen began his formal music training in his homeland Taiwan. At the age of seventeen, Chen won the First Prize in the Province Violin Contest. After which he continued his music education in Europe, and graduated from Munich Conservatory of Music in 1969. After his return to Taiwan, he served as conductor for Ministry of Defense Orchestra, China Youth Symphony Orchestra and Hua-Xing Symphony Orchestra. He also led the Hua-Xing Symphony Orchestra in the participation of the 8th International Music Competition organized in Holland and won the First Prize.

During his seventeen years of leadership of Taipei Symphony Orchestra, his accomplishments range beyond conducting symphony pieces. He also successfully produced and performed in several operas such as “Aida” (阿依達), “Othello” (奧泰羅), “Pagliacci” (丑角), “La traviata” (茶花女), “Il trovatore” (遊唱詩人), “La Bohème” (波西米亞人), “Madama Butterfly” (蝴蝶夫人), “Turandot” (杜蘭朵公主), “Tosca” (托斯卡), “Carmen” (卡門), “Cavalleria rusticana” (鄉村騎士), “Rigoletto” (弄臣), and “The Flying Dutchman” (漂泊的荷蘭人), offering Taiwan audience a broader perspective of music. His creativity and imagination allowed him to become one of the best conductors in Taiwan. He is the first to present operas in the format of outdoor presentations, held at the plaza of the historical Taipei Zhongshan Hall. His 2002 performances, “Madama Butterfly” in April and the “Cavalleria rusticana” in October, were very successful. The two performances attracted massive audience of different ages and are the few that have the most audience in the history of Taiwan music performances.

Through exploring new tracks, and venturing into community and education programs, Chen has shaped himself to be an establisher of wind ensemble orchestra. He has also led Taipei Symphony Orchestra performances in US, Singapore, Hong Kong, Korea, Philippines, Russia and France, establishing international reputation for the orchestra. In 2001, the orchestra first debut in Vienna received thunderous applause and widespread praises.

Chen’s international business includes conducting for many world renowned orchestras.  He has served as guest conductors for Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow State Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra, Japan N.H.K., Prague State Opera, Soviet Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Hungarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra (originally known as Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra). These experiences have exhibited his gift for conducting. Chen has recorded many albums, including Taiwan and Western tracks, in which his experienced conducting has won praises from music critics. In one of the latest albums, Chen collaborated with world renowned Anthony Gigliotti in the remaster of the “Clarinet Concertos” by Rochberg. During the collaboration, Chen exhibited his superb skills and his unique interpretation of the contemporary piece, and his obsession for achieving artistic excellence.
