生於臺北,吳曜宇於國立臺北藝術大學開始他的指揮學習,啟蒙於已故名師徐頌仁教授。
繼1988年國家交響樂團音樂總監呂紹嘉獲獎後,他於2013年贏得第53屆法國貝桑頌國際青年指揮大賽首獎(同時囊括樂團票選獎及觀眾票選獎),為第二位獲此殊榮的臺灣人,並隨即活躍於國內外知名樂團,曾合作過樂團如聖彼得堡交響樂團、波蘭國家廣播交響樂團、法國洛林國家交響樂團、法國波爾多國家交響樂團、國家交響樂團、臺北市立交響樂團、國立臺灣交響樂團...等。
作為新生代指揮,吳曜宇廣泛接觸各類樂種,並對於音樂的推廣不遺餘力。除多次於戶外場合指揮公眾音樂會外,他也曾為孩童巡演洪伯定克「韓賽爾與葛麗特」,並於2016年與臺北市立交響樂團為臺北市民指揮迎接新年的晨曦音樂會。因其追求音樂的執著與對年輕學子的影響,於2013年被評為兩廳院表演藝術雜誌音樂類年度人物,並於2014年受政府提名為53屆十大傑出青年候選人。

Taiwan-borned conductor Yao-Yu Wu began his conducting learning in Taipei National University of Arts, with Pro. Hsu Sung-Jen.
Wu won the Grand Prix de Direction (First Prize) of 53rd Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors, also Coup de Coeur L’Orchestre (Prize from Orchestra) and Coup de Coeur du Public (Prize from Public). In Taiwan, he was the second person who won this competition after Maestro Lü Shao-chia won in 1988. Having this competition, Wu began his career by cooperated with numerous world-known orchestras like St. Petersburg Symphony Orchestra, Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestre de Lorraine, National Orchestre de Bordeaux, Taiwan Philharmonic, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra...etc.
As a young conductor, Wu popularized music with enthusiasm. In addition to conduct public concerts in parks, he has also toured for children which he conducted Humperdinck’s Hänsel und Gretel. In 2016, he conducted Taipei New Year’s concert with Taipei Symphony Orchestra for Taipei. Due to his spirit for searching music and influence on young person, he was named by Perform and Arts Magazine as 2013 People of the year in music, and nominated by government as candidate of 53rd Ten Outstanding Young Persons in 2014.
