Music Director of the Liege Royal Philharmonic Orchestra from 2011 to 2019, he previously held the same post at the New Japan Philharmonic and the Lucerne Theatre and Symphony Orchestra, and was Chief Conductor of the Janáček Philharmonic. In 2017, he became Principal Guest Conductor of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra. Since conducting the Czech Philharmonic at the Prague Spring Festival in 2003, he has conducted top European orchestras including Dresden Staatskapelle, Deutsches Sinfonieorchester, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Salzburg Mozarteum, Vienna Symphony, National Polish Radio, Swiss Romande, Prague Symphony, Academia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Barcelona Symphony, Belgian National, Capitole de Toulouse and RAI Turin orchestras. In North America, he has conducted Boston, Cincinnati, Houston, Colorado, Utah and Vancouver Symphony orchestras, and in Asia, the NHK, Hiroshima, Kyoto and Shanghai Symphony orchestras as well as the Taiwan and the Malaysian Philharmonic orchestras. Arming made his operatic debut in 1997 at the Salzburg Festival and has since conducted The Turn of the Screw in Cincinnati, Rosenkavalier in Trieste, La Bohème in Lucerne, Salome and Elektra in Verona, Prince Igor in Strasbourg, The Flying Dutchman, Don Giovanni, Jenufa, Tales of Hoffmann and Der Zwerg at the Frankfurt Opera, Pelléas and Mélisande, Leonore, Gianni Schicchi, Salome, A Florentine Tragedy, Lohengrin and Die Fledermaus in Tokyo. In 2019, he conducted four performances of Seiji Ozawa Music Academy’s opera “Carmen” sharing the podium with Seiji Ozawa. Christian Arming has a varied discography including works by Janáček, Schubert, Brahms and Mahler. In 2018, Deutsche Grammophon launched his first recording featuring the Sirba Octet. Christian Arming was born in Vienna and studied conducting under Leopold Hager at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna. Seiji Ozawa has also been a mentor and strong supporter of his career, introducing him to Boston and Tokyo. 2021/22 |
