清晨行過原野的音樂旅人
 
國臺交在上個樂季的「顛峰之作」以馬勒的第九號交響曲封關，這是馬勒在年近五十，生命走到盡頭的嘔心瀝血之作。2023/24樂季的開季有如一記回馬槍，回頭挑戰馬勒在二十歲初試啼聲的第一號交響曲《巨人》。

《巨人》開頭的步調緩慢，仿如黎明的天光變化，景物浮現，生機復甦，然後，馬勒引用了歌樂作品《青年旅人之歌》的〈今日清晨行過原野〉，旋律清新，似乎也是正待闖蕩江湖的年輕馬勒的寫照。
開季音樂會並邀來曾錄製貝多芬鋼琴奏鳴曲全集的兒玉麻里擔任獨奏，在首席客席指揮水藍帶領下，與國臺交演出孟德爾頌的G小調第一號鋼琴協奏曲。孟德爾頌寫這首協奏曲的時候，也是二十出頭，當時正在歐洲四處進行「壯遊」，此曲寫於羅馬，在慕尼黑首演，由孟德爾頌親自擔任獨奏。鋼琴帶有流行於日耳曼的「狂飆」印記，樂曲一開始，便迫不及待地展現了動能。整首協奏曲的長度只有二十分鐘左右，三個樂章一氣呵成，更顯得緊湊。

國臺交開季音樂會選擇了馬勒與孟德爾頌這兩位音樂家的年少傑作，銳氣十足，身手架式已然不凡，時有精彩之處，也讓聽眾見識國臺交的活力與技巧。（撰文：吳家恆）

NTSO’s last season ended on a high note with Mahler's Symphony No. 9. The composer completed this masterpiece at nearly fifty when his life was coming to an end. Echoing the last season, 2023/24 season kicks off with Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 Titan, a piece he completed in his twenties.

Titan begins with a slow pace, like the unhurried changes of light and shade in the dawn sky. Several scenes gradually emerge and life returns to the world. Then Mahler added excerpts of the song “Ging heut morgen übers Feld” from his Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen. The fresh melody seems to reflect the excitement of young Mahler who is about to start his career.

For the opening concert, NTSO invited pianist Mari Kodama, who has recorded the complete collection of Beethoven’s piano sonatas, to collaborate with the orchestra. Under the direction of Principal Guest Conductor Lan Shui, Mari Kodama will perform as a soloist in Mendelssohn’s Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor. Mendelssohn wrote this concerto in his early twenties during his Grand Tour in Europe. The composition was written in Rome and premiered in Munich, with Mendelssohn himself performing as the soloist. Carrying on the Sturm und Drang style that was very popular in Germany at that time, the piano music shows strong momentum as soon as it starts. The full concerto includes three movements compactly packed in about 20 minutes.

The two compositions selected for NTSO’s opening concert were both completed when the composers were young. Both pieces are strong and show great potential, and their highlights offer opportunities for NTSO to present their vitality and skills.
