在織布尚未普及的年代，南島族群祖先運用構樹內層樹皮，透過拍打、染製與縫合，製作出實用又富文化意涵的「打樹成衣」。這種無紡的植物纖維布料——樹皮布（tapa／masi），不僅是衣物與遮蔽工具，更是儀式秩序、社會身分與集體記憶的象徵。

Felting Bark to Make Cloth : Austronesian Tapa Memory and Cultural Connections
在織布尚未普及的年代，南島族群以構樹內層樹皮拍打、染製與縫合，製成象徵記憶與身分的「打樹成衣」。這種植物纖維布料——樹皮布（tapa／masi），承載著生活與儀式的意義。
本展從構樹的日常應用、考古出土的石拍與DNA研究出發，追溯南島族群的技藝遷徙與文化傳承，並展出珍貴樹皮布藏品，彰顯臺灣在南島研究中的關鍵地位。同時邀請當代藝術家以創作回應，讓古老工藝在今日持續發聲，成為文化延續的回響。
Before woven cloth, Austronesian speaking people made barkcloth (tapa/masi) from the inner bark of the paper mulberry—pounded, dyed, and stitched into garments rich in meaning.
This exhibition traces barkcloth’s journey from Taiwan’s archaeological finds and plant research to its cultural legacy across the Pacific. Presenting rare collections and contemporary artworks, it highlights Taiwan’s vital role in Austronesian heritage and the continuing dialogue between tradition, land, and identity.
