From piano to orchestra, Beethoven to Bartok, the ebb and flow of concertos ignite the endless possibilities of classical music.

Concerto performances offer the most visual and audio sensations. The soloist at times collaborates, at times competes with the orchestra, creating interactions that always mesmerize the audience who cheer wildly when the concert comes to an end.

Tonight we will enjoy two concertos in completely different styles.  Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 1, which was heavily influenced by Haydn, was actually written three years later than his second concerto. However, it is titled "Piano Concerto No. 1" since it was published first. This composition follows the traditional classic style in both music concept and structure and is considered as one of the classics from Beethoven's youth.

The more contemporary Bartok chose to focus on the orchestra. Every instrument has an opportunity to show off their skills during their particularly difficult solos. Bartok once said that the odd movements in his "Concerto for Orchestra" were composed "according to Beethoven's 'from pain to joy' model". The piece showcases elevated ideas of the Romantic School in extremely complex concepts, and this reason alone is enough to make it a classic that should not be missed.
