Shostakovich and Tchaikovsky bring the romantic spirit and passion of the Russians, and Copland presents the wilderness of the States. Tonight, we bridge the US and Russia with music.

Shostakovich's vivacious "Festive Overture" announces the start of tonight's adventure where we experience completely different music styles of the US and Russia. Chinese-American violinist Nancy Zhou performs Tchaikovsky's Violin Concerto in D Major in a way that fully showcases the talent of the composer. Every aspect of the moving melody in each movement is played to perfection.

Then we enter American territory in Copland's Appalachian Spring - Orchestral suite, conducted by Kuokman Lio. The composition includes folk songs and dances that present the delightful scenery of the American wilderness.

In addition to the distinctive compositions by Russian and American composers, don't forget we also have "Knot", written by Taiwanese composer Ssu-Yu Huang and commissioned by NTSO. A concert where the US and Russia is "Knotted" together. What's not to love?
