Schumann described Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major as "the Greek beauty between two northern giants". The intense yet soft Symphony No. 4 presents a joyous and optimistic atmosphere since this composition was a commission piece Beethoven created during his break.

Don Quixote is a symphonic poem by Richard Strauss based on Spanish writer Cervantes' masterpiece. Using freestyle variations, it tells the tale of naive old Don Quixote and his servant’s adventures as knight and squire. The composition showcases many unique, bold harmonies and orchestral interpretations. In this concert, the role of Don Quixote is performed by cellist Jian Wang, and NTSO Principal Violaist Hsiao Hui-Chu will play the role of the squire, Sancho Panza.
