指揮／水藍 Lan Shui

水藍素以擅長塑造、帶領樂團聞名，並熱衷於委託、首演並錄製亞洲頂尖作曲家的新作。超過二十年擔任新加坡交響樂團音樂總監的時間裡，《美國唱片評論》曾描述水藍：「將一支優秀的地方樂團提升至世界級樂團之林，在每場音樂會均毫不保留，全力以赴。」他們亦曾前往美洲、歐洲、亞洲進行多趟巡迴，包括2014年9月於BBC逍遙音樂節的初次登臺。2019年1月，水藍卸下了在新加坡的職務，擔任國立臺灣交響樂團首席客席指揮。

自2007年至2016年，水藍出任哥本哈根愛樂的首席指揮，2017年轉任榮譽指揮，2018/19樂季的重要活動包括了在他的家鄉杭州與杭州愛樂合作、上海交響樂團、廣州交響樂團，並回到歌劇現場，在香港藝術節指揮華裔作曲家周龍的普立茲得獎歌劇作品《白蛇傳》，除了在亞洲繁忙的行程外，這個樂季他也將首次與法國國家管弦樂團合作。

水藍亦常以客席指揮的身份與世界各大交響樂團合作。包括美國洛杉磯愛樂、舊金山交響樂團、巴爾的摩交響樂團、底特律交響樂團。在歐洲，他曾與柏林德意志交響樂團、法蘭克福廣播交響樂團、丹麥國家交響樂團、斯圖加特廣播交響樂團、德國廣播愛樂、瑞典哥德堡交響樂團、坦貝雷愛樂、里爾國立管絃樂團。在亞洲，他也曾指揮香港管弦樂團、馬來西亞愛樂、日本愛樂，並與中國愛樂與上海交響樂團保持穩定的合作關係。

自1998年開始，水藍指揮新加坡交響樂團為唱片公司BIS錄製了超過35張專輯，其中包括了首次錄製的齊爾品交響曲全集，並與馬爾默交響樂團、獨奏家依芙琳‧葛蘭妮女爵士、林昭亮與吉爾‧夏漢合作，錄製馬爾肯‧阿諾爵士與辛德密特的作品。他的專輯曾獲得兩度葛萊美獎提名。

水藍曾多次獲得國際獎項肯定，包括北京藝術節、紐約齊爾品協會、第37屆法國貝桑松指揮大賽、波士頓大學（傑出校友獎）、以及新加坡政府對藝術的最高榮譽肯定─新加坡文化勳章。

水藍出生於中國杭州，於上海音樂學院修習作曲，畢業於北京中央音樂學院，隨後前往波士頓大學深造，同時在檀格塢音樂節與伯恩斯坦密切合作。他曾於巴爾的摩交響樂團與大衛‧辛曼共事，並曾在底特律交響樂團、紐約愛樂、克里夫蘭管弦樂團分別擔任大師尼米‧賈維、庫特‧馬舒、皮耶‧布列茲的助理指揮。

Lan Shui is renowned for his abilities as an orchestral builder and for his passion in commissioning, premiering and recording new works by leading Asian composers. As Music Director of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for over twenty years, American Record Review noted that Shui has “turned a good regional orchestra into a world-class ensemble that plays its heart out at every concert”. Together they made several acclaimed tours to Europe, Asia and the United States and appeared for the first time at the BBC Proms in September 2014. As of January 2019, Shui steps down from his post in Singapore and takes on the position of Principal Guest Conductor of the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra.

Shui also held the position of Chief Conductor of the Copenhagen Phil from 2007 to 2015 and he continues to collaborate with the orchestra as its Honorary Conductor. Important engagements for the 18/19 season include concerts with Hangzhou Philharmonic in his hometown of Hangzhou, Shanghai Symphony Orchestra, Guangzhou Symphony Orchestra and a return to the opera pit for Zhou Long’s Pulitzer Prize-winning Madame White Snake at the Hong Kong Arts Festival. Aside from his busy schedule in Asia, this season he makes his debut with the Orchestre National de France in Paris.

As a guest conductor, Shui has worked with many orchestras worldwide. In the United States he has appeared with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Baltimore and Detroit symphony orchestras. In Europe he has performed with Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, hr-Sinfonieorchester, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR, Deutsche Radio Philharmonie, Gothenburg Symphony, Tampere Philharmonic and Orchestre National de Lille. In Asia he has conducted the Hong Kong, Malaysian and Japan Philharmonic orchestras and maintains a close relationship with the China Philharmonic and Shanghai Symphony.

Since 1998 Shui has recorded over 35 CDs with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra for BIS - including the first ever complete cycle of Tcherepnin’s symphonies – and also works by Arnold and Hindemith with the Malmö Symphony Orchestra featuring soloists such as Dame Evelyn Glennie, Cho-Liang Lin and Gil Shaham. His albums have received twice Grammy nominations.

Lan Shui is the recipient of several international awards from the Beijing Arts Festival and the New York Tcherepnin Society, the 37th Besançon Conductors’ Competition in France and Boston University (Distinguished Alumni Award) as well as the Cultural Medallion - Singapore’s highest accolade in the arts.

Born in Hangzhou, China, Shui studied composition at the Shanghai Conservatory and graduated from The Beijing Central Conservatory. He continued his graduate studies at Boston University while at the same time working closely with Leonard Bernstein at the Tanglewood Music Festival. He has worked together with David Zinman as Conducting Affiliate of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, as Associate Conductor to Neeme Järvi at the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and with Kurt Masur at the New York Philharmonic and Pierre Boulez at The Cleveland Orchestra.
